What objects deserve to remain?

Studio KVN began with that question, and has been working on the answer one object at a time.

The studio explores the relationship between material, function and time — what a thing is made of, how it is held, and what it becomes after a decade of use.

Small runs, by hand.

Every object is made and assembled in the studio. Leather is cut with a die we designed, then dyed, waxed, burnished, stamped, punched and sewn by hand — around a hundred pieces to a run, and often fewer.

It is not the most efficient way to work. It is the only way we have found to keep each one right.

Before KVN,
there was XKV.

XKV was the studio's first chapter — an exploration of leather, utility and reclaimed materials that began at a dining table with a utility knife and a paper template.

Twenty-five pieces remain from it, each numbered and final. The emboss struck into their backs is left exactly as it was; it is a record, not a logo.
