Questions
If your question is not here, write to hello@studiokvn.com. A person answers, usually the same day.
What leather do you use?+
Full-grain vegetable-tanned American cowhide, cut with a clicker die we designed, then hand dyed, waxed and burnished in the studio.
Why is every wallet different?+
The linings are reclaimed — a vintage necktie, a surplus jacket, a bolt of upholstery silk. Each one is cut once and never repeated, so the piece you see is the piece you receive.
How many cards does it hold?+
Comfortably four to six cards plus folded bills. Vegetable-tanned leather stretches to what you carry over the first few weeks and then holds that shape.
Will the colour change?+
Yes. Lighter colours darken with sun, water and the oils in your skin. That patina is the point — it is the record of your use, not wear to be avoided.
How should I care for it?+
Keep it dry, and once or twice a year work in a small amount of leather balm with a cloth. Do not use saddle soap or solvents on the dyed exterior.
Can I have a specific tie or fabric used?+
Sometimes. If you have a tie with meaning — a father’s, a wedding’s — write to us and we will tell you whether it can be cut and what the wait would be.
Do you repair older wallets?+
We repair anything we have made, including pieces stamped with the XKv mark. Stitching, snaps and edges are repaired free; anything needing new leather is quoted at cost.
Is XKv the same studio?+
Yes. XKv was the original name and the mark stamped into the early wallets. The work continues as Studio KVN, with the same hands and the same standard.
When do new pieces come out?+
In small runs, usually a hundred or so at a time, when the leather and the textiles are both right. Subscribers to the letter hear first.
Do you ship internationally?+
Yes, worldwide. Rates and transit times are listed under Shipping & Returns; duties are collected by the carrier on delivery.
